PROBLEM STATEMENTS

Intelligent & Connected Transportation
Smart mobility, AI, and connected systems that move the world better.
01
Smart Traffic Signal Optimization
Build an AI-powered system that dynamically tunes signal timings using real-time vehicle density, emergency-vehicle detection, and congestion data to cut travel time and fuel consumption.
02
Emergency Vehicle Priority Network
Design a connected solution that carves a "green corridor" for ambulances, fire trucks, and police by communicating with nearby signals and vehicles in real time.
03
AI-Based Accident Prediction & Prevention
Analyze vehicle telemetry, road conditions, weather, and traffic patterns to predict accident-prone situations and push preventive alerts to drivers before danger strikes.
04
Smart Parking Discovery Platform
Create an IoT-enabled parking system with live availability, reservation options, and optimal navigation that guides drivers straight to a vacant spot.
05
Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) Safety Communication
Develop a connected network where vehicles exchange data on sudden braking, lane changes, blind spots, and road hazards to dramatically improve road safety.
06
Public Transport Intelligence System
Build an AI platform that predicts bus/train arrivals, optimizes routes by demand, and delivers real-time passenger info to upgrade urban mobility.
07
Driver Fatigue & Distraction Monitoring
Use computer vision to detect drowsiness, phone usage, and distraction patterns, alerting drivers in time to prevent accidents.
08
Connected School Bus Safety System
Bonus
Track school buses live, notify parents of arrivals, monitor driver behavior, and keep students safe through end-to-end IoT connectivity.
09
Pothole & Road Hazard Detection Network
Bonus
Leverage smartphone sensors, vehicle cameras, or IoT devices to auto-detect potholes and road damage, then report them to authorities in real time.
10
Smart EV Route & Charging Assistant
Bonus
Predict battery usage, suggest optimal routes, and locate available EV charging stations while minimizing waiting time.
Sustainable & Renewable Energy for Mobility
Clean power, smart grids, and green energy for the vehicles of tomorrow.
01
Smart EV Charging Network Optimization
Build an AI platform that forecasts charging demand, optimizes station utilization, and trims waiting times while balancing the grid load.
02
Solar-Powered Charging Infrastructure
Design a sustainable station that blends solar generation, battery storage, and EV charging to cut dependence on conventional power.
03
Intelligent Battery Health Monitoring
Create a predictive maintenance system that tracks battery performance, estimates remaining useful life, and recommends ways to extend longevity and safety.
04
Renewable Energy-Based Fleet Management
Help transport fleets maximize renewable energy use, optimize charging schedules, and minimize carbon emissions across operations.
05
Energy-Efficient Route Planning for EVs
Develop navigation that picks routes based on battery consumption, traffic, road gradients, weather, and charging-station availability.
06
Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) Energy Management
Enable EVs to feed surplus stored energy back to the grid during peak demand while keeping the vehicle ready for its next trip.
07
AI-Based Carbon Emission Tracking
Measure, analyze, and visualize carbon emissions across transport modes, then recommend greener alternatives.
Secure & Data-Driven Transportation
Security, privacy, and analytics that keep mobility trustworthy.
01
AI-Powered Driver Behavior Analytics
Analyze driving patterns such as speeding, harsh braking, and sudden acceleration to improve road safety and lower accident risk.
02
Secure Vehicle Data Sharing Framework
Let vehicles, service providers, and authorities exchange data while guaranteeing privacy, integrity, and protection against cyber threats.
03
Real-Time Fleet Monitoring & Risk Management
Build an intelligent dashboard that monitors vehicle health, driver performance, route efficiency, and operational risk in real time.
04
Transportation Cybersecurity Threat Detection
Detect unauthorized access, GPS spoofing, communication attacks, and suspicious activity in connected systems using AI and anomaly detection.
05
Road Safety Intelligence Platform
Aggregate accident records, traffic data, weather, and infrastructure info to flag high-risk zones and recommend preventive measures.
06
Secure Smart Toll Collection System
Design a contactless toll platform that prevents fraud, protects user data, and enables seamless vehicle authentication and payment.
07
Predictive Vehicle Maintenance Using Analytics
Analyze sensor data to predict component failures, schedule maintenance proactively, and slash unexpected breakdowns.
08
Privacy-Preserving Mobility Data Platform
Bonus
Let agencies analyze mobility patterns while protecting individual privacy through anonymization and secure data handling.
09
Cargo Tracking & Security Monitoring
Bonus
Provide real-time cargo tracking, tamper detection, route monitoring, and theft prevention for logistics operations.
10
AI-Based Traffic Incident Detection
Bonus
Use traffic cameras, IoT sensors, and analytics to auto-detect accidents, stalled vehicles, and unusual behavior for faster emergency response.
These are suggested directions — feel free to put your own spin on any statement. Chasing something entirely different? That's what Open Innovation is for.

HACK GUIDELINES

01
Team Size
Teams must consist of 2 to 4 members. Solo participation is not permitted.
02
Original Work Only
All code and design must be built from scratch during the event. Pre-existing projects or resubmissions will be disqualified immediately.
03
Domain Lock-In
Teams must declare their domain at registration. Switching domains after registration is strictly not permitted.
04
Submission Rules
Final submission must include a working prototype and a short project presentation by the deadline.
05
Code of Conduct
Respectful behavior is mandatory throughout. Any plagiarism, harassment, or misconduct leads to immediate disqualification.
06
Judging Criteria
Projects are scored on Innovation, Technical Complexity, Real-World Impact, and Presentation Quality.

SELECTION PROCESS

Round 01 · Online
📄

Idea Screening

Every team submits a solution presentation through the registration form — built from the official template and uploaded as a PDF. Our panel reviews each idea on innovation, feasibility, and fit with the chosen domain.

  • Submit your presentation (PDF) while registering
  • No fee and no campus visit at this stage
  • Shortlisted teams are notified by email
Round 02 · On Campus
⚡

The 24-Hour Hackathon

Shortlisted teams build their solution live at RNGPIT over 24 non-stop hours — with meals, mentorship, and workstations provided. This is where prototypes come alive and winners are decided.

  • Only Round 1 qualifiers take part
  • Registration fee is collected here, offline
  • Final demos judged live on stage
Registration Rules
  • The team leader fills out the online form with the details of all team members.
  • Each student may be part of only one team.
  • The registration fee is non-refundable once paid.
  • Declare your domain at registration — switching tracks later is not permitted.
Fee & Payment
₹300 / team (IEEE members)
  • The fee is ₹300 per team if the team leader and members are IEEE members, and ₹500 per team for others (non-IEEE).
  • Collected online only — nothing is paid during online registration.
  • Charged only after your team clears Round 1.
  • Settled on the RNGPIT campus at the start of Round 2.
